We have allowed many of our overseas territories to = use our language. The results have been varied in the extreme and range = from complete butchery of the language to a reasonable facsimile of = proper English in other places. Nobody should be dismayed if the = English they learnt to speak at their mother's knee does not work in = other parts of the world. After all how many times do we misunderstand = our wives and we are both speaking English!! Scottish accents are = accepted in Britain but are no easier for native Britains to understand = than their overseas cousins.
