I am going to try to lower the emphasis on the air race. I am going to refer
to it as a timed event, or something that will not attract
any "official" attention. We cannot call it a "race".
If it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck, what do you know, probably IS a DUCK...
There are many federalregulations governing air racing, like $1 million dollars of insurance and
all the racers must have instrument ratings. Calling it a "race" is highly
illegal for our purposes.
I agree with Stuka, where does your buddy get all these stuff? Instrument rated? MANY Federal regulations? Illegal? C'mon.
Tell your buddies that it is not an officialsanctioned event by anybody, especially us. That would make it our
responsibility if someone crashed or diverted to an off field landing. It is
strictly an unofficial "fly around" to sight see Kitty Hawk. Period. Even
the timers and spotters must know this.
On the 17th of May, we will have a pilots meeting and stress this. Safety
first, and EVERYTHING else is secondary.
Always, safety is GOOD.
If they complain, too bad.
This event is a friendly one, and competition is not going to spoil our fun.
Please do not advertise this as a RACE, especially between the Lancairs and
the EZs, especially in the current political environment. Low, fast movers
squawking 1200 may attract unwanted radar and military attention. It is a
Fly In, and around........that's all.
In addition to the Legacy/IV class, I may have to add another one, the USAF F16/F14 class...
