I am going to refer to it as a timed event, or something that will not attract any "official" attention. We cannot call it a "race". There are many federal regulations governing air racing, like $1 million dollars of insurance and all the racers must have instrument ratings. Calling it a "race" is highly illegal for our purposes. Tell your buddies that it is not an official sanctioned event by anybody, especially us. That would make it our responsibility if someone crashed or diverted to an off field landing. It is strictly an unofficial "fly around" to sight see Kitty Hawk. Period. Even the timers and spotters must know this. On the 17th of May, we will have a pilots meeting and stress this. Safety first, and EVERYTHING else is secondary. If they complain, too bad. This event is a friendly one, and competition is not going to spoil our fun. Please do not advertise this as a RACE, especially between the Lancairs and the EZs, especially in the current political environment. Low, fast movers squawking 1200 may attract unwanted radar and military attention. It is a Fly In, and around........that's all. Thanks, Steve
