Re: Bring it On
I'm 63 years old, and I have seen lingo like this before--once in the '50's when someone was touting water carbs, and more recently when an employee of mine--a true genius, by the way--also invented a perpetual energy machine.
I came to work one morning and he had diagrams all over the blackboard. He was really excited. He had invented the ultimate device for the benefit of mankind.
Closer examination of the drawings on the blackboard revealed a funnel-like device with something in it, and a spiral wire protruding from it with plus and minus labels.
"Chuck", I said, "what is in the funnel?" He replied, in all seriousness, "Human excrement". Chuck had designed a perpetual energy machine based on human excrement...
Several weeks later, Chuck was in a full-blown Schizophrenia state, hearing voices and he was hospitalized at age 23. But he was a true genius. It was just that the voices in his head had overtaken his judgement, and in this case, many laws of physics. But like many geniuses, he could talk for hours on the subject and make it sound like it would work.... In his own mind, he had seen it work, just like the writer of the current piece had seen his friend's invention work.
My employee, Chuck, could have been this century's genius of all geniuses, he was that smart. I have always contended that the Bell Shaped Curve is not flat--it is three dimensional, with the two ends connected in the back of the peak. The two ends, of course, are genius and idiocy, and there seems to be a relationship there...
On the other hand, with gas prices going stratospheric, we could certainly use such a device...
