For Jeff Edwards:

Jeff:

I actually dont know if I am going to have a problem with extending the gear in flight because I was never sucessful in fully retracting the gear after takeoff.  From what I understand from the observers on the ground, some part of the door is preventing the tire from going up into the gear well.  The photos that were taken  by the folks on the ground dont show enough detail to determine exactly what the problem is, so I am sort of working in the dark.

I was aware that some of the early builders experienced this problem so I added extra carbon fiber to the inside of the entire door with the result that my doors appear relatively stiff.  Obviously they are flexing somewhere because they work great during the retraction tests on the ground but not in the air.  Evidently Lancair believes that the 1/8 inch thick slider is the problem.  Vern is sending me some of the 1/4 inch material and I will also add the extra foam and increase the 3 bid to 5 bid as shown in the drawing attached to the Service Bulletin.

Hopefully, once I get the gear to retract without hanging up on the gear doors, it will extend without any problem.  I hope!!!
Thanks for the input.  Bill H
