Greg,
I
recently viewed a kit in the condition you describe. It was actually a
slow build kit with minimal work started. Many items said to be complete
(minus 10%) had zero work done on them. The canopy and frame was the most
aggregious of these claims. Other misrepresented items included actual
factory purchase date, not actually being a fast build kit, short engine mount
while claiming long mount, a carbon cowling. My point is to look at
several kits and hopefully assess the project with someone who has built
one.
The
workmanship was done by 3 individuals with 3 distinct qualities. Some of
which would require backing up and redoing. These kits were sold from
$20-$30K in the 90's from Lancair. I've seen some of the new fast build
kits (more work done at factory) that had not been started for sale from
$17-$25K lately. I'm looking for one myself to build with/for a
friend.
If
you'd like to talk more don't hesitate to call me. My kit FB #417 serves
as my benchmark for assessing how much work is done and needs to be done.
I logged every hour (3300) and now feel have a reasonable ability to assess
actual percent completion.
