Skip,

Can you describe your ignition system? - I'm intrigued with the idea of
electronic primary system backed up by something else.  The cat's meow would
be a magneto backup to the same plug - running all the time just a little
retarded behind the electronic system. If that's not possible, have a second
plug doing the same thing.  Next alternative - not nearly so good because
complete electrical failure would turn you into a glider is mechanical fuel
injection with a coil generated spark.

My understanding is that EFI may be the best way to run an engine at optimal
performance, but in many instances, it may be prone to breakdown and failure
for a variety of reasons.  Therefore a more bullet proof backup would be
prudent.  Is this thinking correct?

Thanks,
John Barrett

I have less than 50 hours on my IO-540 powered ES.  I've had a few bugs
to work out (the engine wasn't new), but hot starts hasn't been one of the
issues I've had to deal with.  I can only think of one time I had a starting
problem and it was due to my inadvertantly flooding the engine.  Keep in
mind that I have an electronic ignition on one side, which advertises easier
starts.<<<
