time. Anyone know about this? Brand? Does it help?"

I have some experience flying in icing conditions in my Baron 58 which is
certificated for flight into known icing conditions.

Silicone, and specify ICEX from BF Goodrich, only facilitates the removal of
ice which is initiated by some other means (inflating the boots). It will
NOT by itself prevent or remove ice.

Icing can be insidious. I've been ice free when I thought I'd have it and
vice-versa. I've had ice in VFR conditions (very light freezing drizzle).
I've tried turning on maximum defrost with maximum heat to remove ice on the
windshield, no effect even at temperatures just barely below freezing.

If you pickup ice get out quickly, especially if you don't have deicing.
Look for ice on whatever you can see out your window with the least radius
(sharpest point). If you don't have the option of descending into above
freezing conditions be especially cautious. If you want to learn about ice
check with Sporty's pilot shop. They have various educational videos/DVDs on
the subject which are very worthwhile and very modestly priced. I recommend
them highly.
