Looks like the existing drag link, being somewhat smaller in width = than the=20 tabs, was made to 'float' there and be self centering to allow for = slight=20 misalignment during construction by various builders. 
 
If it gets shimmed too much then it would be in conflict with the = sides of=20 the drag link and/or tabs?  Thus friction and wear?
