Richard,
This is my view of your gear problem.
1.  Your gear didn't really unlock.  You had an indication that it did,
which means your micro switch needs to be readjusted.  If the gear unlocked,
your wing tip would be on the ground.  Suggest you put the aircraft on
jacks, turn off the hydraulics and see if you can make the green light go
off by moving the gear laterally.

2.  The hydraulic pump came on and made the green light come back on.  This
means that the hydraulics is holding the gear in a position slightly beyond
the relaxed, locked position.  The stop on your main gear hydraulic cylinder
may need to be readjusted.

3.  If you hydraulic pump comes back on periodically, you have a leak in
your hydraulic system.  It could be anywhere in the system but most likely
in one of the gear cylinders or the dump valve if you still have the
original style valve.
