Michael,
I have located my antennae essentially as yours and have the GPS antenna
forward of the vert. stab. on an aluminum plate just under the top of the
fiberglass section of the fuselage aft of the carbon fiber joint. So far
( ~85 hrs. ) I have had only good results with my KLX 135A GPS/comm. Been
to OSH & back, down to Arizona and a few other  places with never a
hiccup. The antenna is spaced approx. 1-1/2 to 2 inches from the inner
skin of the fuselage.
