I have a geared manual trim system in my Lancair 320, which has been working very well now for 100 hours. It involves an AN4 bolt completely through the center console. On this, a lathed axle with a flange, to which a 6 inch plywood wheel is riveted. A small gear is pressed onto the axle. A linear gear rod attached to the trim pushrod rides on the gear. A milled piece holds the gear and the gear rod together. All parts made from brass. There is a fibreglass friction washer and a couple of dish spring washers, and the AN4 nut is simply tightened for the desired friction. The small gear is sized so one full turn gives 150% of the original trim travel, which is perfect. A small gear and a few inches of gear rod costs a couple of dollars, and a couple of hours with your mill and lathe is all that is required. Sven J SE-XOP
