I solved it as follows: 1. Remove the dip tube assembly by cutting the safety wire and unscrewing it. 2. Near the bottom of the barrel scribe two locating marks on the barrel, a known distance apart. (From memory, I made mine 2" and 6" above the threaded bottom of the assembly.) 3. Make two saw cuts and remove 1" of the plastic barrel between the marks. Debur and clean the barrel. 4. Using two Breeze clamps and a 4" length of heavy-wall oil-compatible rubber hose of appropriate ID, slip the hose over the excised section so that your original locating marks are the same distance apart as they originally were. 5. Reinstall the dip-tube assembly and re-safety wire. 6. Clamp the upper end to whatever is convenient (something on the engine - NOT the engine mount) so it won't flop around. Your dip tube is now slightly flexible so it doesn't interfere with the engine mount. It only takes a tad..
