I suspect the outlet pressure at the vacuum pump is not an issue and one more
hose going some place is not what I need. However, I have heard that planes
without blast tubes feeding the vacuum pump will experience early pump failures.
My pump came with a blast tube kit from Lancair.
I've just discovered that the dipstick tube on my new Lycoming IO-360 contacts
the engine mount (just barely touches). This condition became evident when I
tightened the rubber isolators to 25 ft.lbs (Barry controls isolators). Since
the torque climbs suddenly, I presume the metal sleeves inside the mounts are
bottoming in this condition. I've verified that the isolator bolts and nuts are
not bottoming on each other and the dipstick tube is not cross threaded. I have
no washers between the isolators and the engine at this time. I have the
Lancair long dynafocal mount. Has anybody else seen a similar problem here?
Any fixes?
Orrin at the factory says he has about 1/8 inch clearance but he has a couple of
washers between his lower isolators and the engine. He uses the Lord mounts. I
have Lord mounts on order.
