Bolts fit fine on two of six holes. On two more, I had to grind weld bead material to allow the washer to fit flat on the bolt tube. On the final two, I had to both grind some weld bead and relieve the washers. (On these final two holes, I would have had to grind engine mount tube, not just weld bead, to allow the washer to fit.) Some of the holes needed washers in order to space the bolt head out enought to allow it to rotate. I know some guys suggested that a washer was not necessary at all, and maybe it isn't, but I've had problems extracting the bolts without rotating them. (I prefer to screw them out than pound them out.) For this reason I wanted washers, whether or not they are structurally necessary. Orin tells me that most of the long LC20 mounts need this treatment. Apparently the steeper tube angles of the longer mount make the engine mount tubes lay very close to the ends of the bolt tubes. The weld bead has a tendency to encroach on the ends of the bolt tubes. Of course, extending the bolt tubes by 1/4 inch would have been a good idea in retrospect... The chromate is drying right now and I'm picking up some flat black touch up paint tomorrow. Y'all might be curious to know that in my county (Santa Barbara, CA) it is illegal to sell zinc chromate paint... - Rob Wolf rwolf99@aol.com [There are apparently many places where sinc chromate is a tough item to locate. Same here in FL as far as hardware stores go, but it appears that there is a steady supply to be had at the local boating supply stores. Go figure. ]
