Unfortunately, as they say (or so I've been told), all good things must come to an end, so goes it for our run of problem-less posts to the LML. (Actually, there've been the occasional glitches which are to be expected with something like this, and I've managed to work my way around them and keep things running without any need for comment... I guess it just goes to show you, even a "perfect 10" has a blemish someplace, she just won't let you see it .) Today's nuisance has to do with formatting (once again). This is directed primarily at the subscribers out there who use either Microsoft's Outlook Express or Netscape's Communicator as their email client (program). It has to do with the settings you have currently selected in your mail editor... here is a direct reprint from the List Posting Guidelines at the LML homepage: >>> Please disable any HTML email formatting and submit your posts as plain text only. Set the word wrap "ON" in your email program and use a wrap length of 76 to eliminate the long-line/short-line problem that results from wrapping at 80 characters or more. (For those of you using MS Outlook Express, here are pictures of the settings to use to insure that your posts will format properly and not foul up the archive displays. (Links to settings pictures reside here.)) >>> In the past, I would simply edit the messages which showed up with HTML tags embedded and post them as text only, not a big deal, just a little extra work. Recently, however, certain posts which are showing up with HTML coding in them, also seem to contain some invisible formatting which I can't remove during the editing process. This formatting is causing these posts to be sent with double-spaced lines, instead of the usual single spacing we're all so accustomed to. Additionally, some of our subscribers receive these posts and because of this hidden formatting, all they get to see are the headers... the body of the message becomes invisible to them. (I understand it has to do with certain programs not including a tag when the HTML is generated, although I find this hard to believe as I'm supposedly stripping all HTML tags from the message when I edit it.) To make a long story a bit shorter, please, please, please... shut off the HTML, send your messages as plain text, set your word wrap at 76, and let's get on with building (or flying, or dreaming about) our airplanes. Thanks to those of you who have cooperated already with this request, I'm sorry for having to bring it up again, and thanks to the rest of you who are finally going to comply now. We really appreciate it. Keep those posts coming!!!
