I'm trying to fit the middle gear door mounting brackets to the gear castings. The brackets pictured in my manual (320 FB rev0/11-1-91, page 6-17, figure 6-11) show brackets which are quite different. There is even a notation that the left and right brackets "are NOT interchangeable". Why? I purchased the optional hardware kit, which has one of each of the brackets pictured. They are, indeed, quite different. The left bracket looks like it would fit perfectly on either side. The right bracket fits horribly. When bolted to the casting it hangs so far inboard (when retracted) that it underlayed the inner gear door, not the middle gear door. It seems to me that the bracket shown as "left" is the proper design -- two should have been provided -- and the one labeled "right" is crap. What am I doing wrong? The obvious thing is to throw away the beautifully crafted (but useless) right side bracket and make a mirror image of the left one to use on the right side (which the manual rather specifically says not to do). Is there anything down the road which makes this the wrong thing to do? Has anyone successfully used the Lancair-provided right side middle gear door bracket? - Rob Wolf rwolf99@aol.com
