Angier,
I too have agonized over elevator gaps that are too large and inconsistent;
so I am very interested in your solution. However, I have a few questions.
Is the first aluminum angle "held flat against the leading edge of the
elevator" held in place by the second aluminum angle which is on the HS? If
so how did you bond the two pieces together so that they were rigid and held
at a constant angle? I assume that you determined the angle of the first
aluminum piece by deflecting the elevator full up and laying the aluminum
flat against the leading edge of the elevator - correct? I assume that the
flox/micro mixture went under the first aluminum angle and you moved the
elevator from down to up to get a smooth contour against the elevator. Do
you have any pictures of this? If I'm wrong about my assumptions please
clarify.

Early on in my lnc2 building career I completed the horizontal stab and
elevators. Many hours and many , many more beers later, I concluded the
elevator gaps left a lot to be desired. They are now straight and .050
top and bottom. I took a length of 3/4x.050 aluminum angle, covered it
with mold release, wet it with epoxy, covered that with peel ply and lay
it flat against the leading edge of the elevator and with the forward
edge of the aluminum tucked under the HS trailing edge. ..snip.... <<<
