Here is one solution to cosmetically pleasing elevator gaps. See
attached photos.
Early on in my lnc2 building career I completed the horizontal stab and
elevators. Many hours and many , many more beers later, I concluded the
elevator gaps left a lot to be desired. They are now straight and .050
top and bottom. I took a length of 3/4x.050 aluminum angle, covered it
with mold release, wet it with epoxy, covered that with peel ply and lay
it flat against the leading edge of the elevator and with the forward
edge of the aluminum tucked under the HS trailing edge. This created a
wedge shaped channel for a flox/micro mixture. The process was completed
by taking another length of aluminum angle, preparing it as per the
first one and laying it flat against the upper trailing edge of the HS,
such that it came into contact with the first piece of aluminum, applied
a little weight and let it cure. The result is a straight HS trailing
edge and after applying 1 bid to top and bottom, a .050+/- gap along the
entire trailing edge.
