Jim,
I think that you are safe using a single antenna with your A-22. It's not
about whether or not the com ant. or the nav. ant. are going to hurt your
A-22. The A-22 handheld was designed to use a single ant. The isolation is
in the tranceiver that prevents transmissions from damaging your nav.
receiver. I have to clarify that I don't know this for certain, but feel
fairly comfortable claiming it since most handheld com/nav transceivers
don't require you to change antennae to use each function. When you are
transmitting, there is more than likely a RF switch that protects your nav
section.
As far as which ant. you use.....try the factory installed nav. ant. and if
it works.....who cares whether you use it or not? The only thing that I can
possibly think of that will be affected is the other receivers in your craft
that are horizontally polarized. They may be susceptible to interference
from transmitting out your nav ant., but that only requires a few tests in
order to validate.
