In response to Valin Thorn's question about Legacy empty weights.

A friend recently completed his Legacy and flew it on June 9th.  Based on information I've seen I think that makes it the 3rd or 4th customer built Legacy to fly.  His plane was built using according to plans using all standard Lancair kit parts.  Hopefully John won't mind my jumping in here and providing some information on his airplane.  (I don't know if he regularly reads the LML or not.)  If memory serves John's Legacy came in at 1485 lbs empty, including unuseable fuel and 12 qts of oil.  His is somewhat unique, at least as of right now, as it has a narrow deck Lycoming IO-540.  It was prepared by Lycon and uses a lightweight starter and alternator.  According to Lycon this setup, engine and accessories, is about 50 lbs lighter than the Continental.  On the other hand John's Legacy is well equiped.  It has a full IFR panel, including a Garmin 430/530 combination, that weighed in at 55 lbs.  That includes radios, flight instruments, and wiring.  It also has a Lasar electronic ignition system, remote mounted oil filter, 2-axis autopilot, adjustable rudder pedals with brakes on both sides, strobes, built in oxygen, and speed brakes.
