I had this same problem exactly. Started with hot starts, waiting around would make it work. I
too thought heat was the problem. Except it slowly got worse. Eventually it'll never turn over. I tried a few solutions (the b&c folks recommnded lubing the plunger in the solenoid), but finally
got stranded someplace for the nth time and just replaced the damn thing with a skytec. I haven't
had any problems since.
Sorry that doesn't help much other then to say, yes I had the same problem.

My B&C starter sometimes will not turn over the engine. I hear the click of the starter solenoid, but the starter does not turn and the system voltage drops only about 1 volt (from about 12.7). I replaced
