Reinath" Subject: B&C Starter Problem Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" ; format="flowed" My B&C starter sometimes will not turn over the engine. I hear the click of the starter solenoid, but the starter does not turn and the system voltage drops only about 1 volt (from about 12.7). I replaced the starter solenoid, thinking that the contacts might not be making good contact (it was only 6 months old), but it has now happened once with the new solenoid. Then I realized that the problem occurs only when I attempt a hot start after I stop for fuel, for example. I think that the starter has some kind of thermal protection which prevents it from running until it has cooled down some. If I wait 45 to 60 minutes, the thermal protection resets and the starter works again. (The battery is a B&C RG only one year old and still very strong.) My engine does not run hot . Oil temps are in the 180 to 190 range. CHTs are 370 to 380 in cruise on a hot summer day, but I'm sure it does get hot under the cowl after shutdown. Anyone else had this problem? I'm going to call the guys at B&C, but I thought I would ask here first. Mike Reinath 360 std. build MKII N3602M (84 hours)
