I torqued the bolts to 40ft/lb which is the lower end of the accepted toque
range for 1/2" bolts of this type.  The bolt is primarily in shear and does
not see energetic stress reversals as in a bolt in tensile stress.  It does
not therefore need a high torque.

I then researched the LML archives and found that Mark Mahnke of Lancair had
recommended 38ft/lb on the grounds that the fibreglass was crushable.  I do
not consider the extra 2 ft/lb to be serious.

I believe there is no reference to any torque value in the manual.

I am attaching the write up I prepared for Wendell and Jean Durr.  He has an
ES hence my reference to the ES.

The fix was given to me by Tim Ong and Mark Mahnke of Lancair.  Vern
supplied the parts overnight.

Hope this helps.

[Please note, the file that Ian sent along was really huge, so I waylayed it,
shrunk it down a bit so it would fit the screen a bit better, and have uploaded
it to the LML website... go to the bottom of the Tips & Tricks page to see the
attachment.  If you have a problem seeing what's there just drop me a line at
marv@lancaironline.net and I'll send you the original... just be prepared, as
the file is about 500k.  Thanks...
