On my 360 installation, my tailpipe was also UNsupported.  It cracked
(broke) at 200 hours at the weld area marked by masking tape in the
enclosed picture 01.  (Anybody that finds the tail pipe in the Virginia
area is welcome to keep it)  In hindsight, it is not surprising my
installation cracked given the long unsupported area.

I didn't really like the heavy spring arrangement (that has worked well
for some), so I came up with a 3 piece 4130 steel strap arrangement the
triangulates (attached at the oil pan) and holds the tail pipes rigidly.
(I originally tried 4130 5/8 x 035 tubing for the brace, but the tubing
cracked after 20 hours).

This new bracing has flown 250 hours trouble free.
