Less modifications are necessary to the 235/290 exhaust system to make it fit a 235 airframe/320 engine than to the 320 exhaust system to the 235 airframe. Either way, significant cowl and exhaust system surgery is needed. Unlike the 320 or 360 exhaust systems, it is not a bolt on and forget it item. My 235/320 exhaust system broke at the tail pipe support (short tail pipes) when supported with significant springs to the engine mount. So, less spring support resulted in a significant break at the 2 into 1 pipe connection between cylinders #2 and #4 (left side). I cannot imagine having no tail pipe support on that particular pipe as it would have failed immediately as it is significantly flexible. The other tail pipe has more rigidity as there is a 2 into 1 pipe connection behind and below cylinder #4. It has thus far never failed, and is also spring supported. Of all the items that have required attention on my airplane since first flight, the exhaust system has been the biggest alligator. Gary Edwards N21SN 235/320 125 Hours
