I just had the opportunity to go through the Columbia 300 baffling on an
airplane that came to Ada, today.

The engine runs too hot in general.  There are several reasons for that.
One, the POH recommends 25 squared for climb, which is a very bad idea.

But, more importantly,  while there is a lot of reasonably nice workmanship
in the engine compartment, they didn't get it "right".

I can make a small number of specific changes to the baffling and probably
lower the CHTs of the three hottest cylinders by 30F or more, each. I really don't understand why airframe people that install engines just
can't "get it right" when it comes to the details of engine cooling air.

As far as the baffle goes, $6400 is pretty high in my book.  I opted to
install it myself.  Keep in mind however, that the baffle kit supplied by
