In addition to cost, weight, install time and its
ability to absorb liquids I doubt the effectiveness of soundproofing.
Consider the sources of noise in our
aircraft; prop beat on the windscreen (can't do anything about that),
exhaust noise on the belly (angle the pipes or outlets down a little more and or
sound insulate only above and behind them), air leaks (not a problem
in a P and something we should all pay attention to for drag reduction, cold
drafts, etc..) I would imagine the oil can noise in sandwich structure is
minimal.
I believe the answer is in the best ANC Headsets
you can find. We are using the latest Bose in our RV6 with air leaks on
the side of the sliding canopy, big enough to jerk 1/2 of a WAC (the
1/2 with the destination on it) out faster than you can say oh sh. Very
effective and it saves your hearing too.
