If you could possibly lose 8,000 feet in a stall, it's a sure sign you need to get a CFI and fix the problem. I've always felt that basic airmanship required competency in stall recovery. Slow flight and a stall series are always the first thing I do in a check-out, including the Glasair II and the Lancair 360.
I really don't want to offend anyone, but the recent email justifying fear and avoidance of stall practice/familiarity is scary. Please think it over and talk with a CFI.
