Randy,
I had Lycon from Visalia, CA modify an IO320B1A sump. According to "The Don
Geotz" that is the sump that can be modified. Whether it can be fit to your
case is another question. Call Lycon and ask or ask your local mechanic.
The sump must be modified, plug the hole in back, turn the pipes around and
punch a hole in front. The cost to convert was about $400 labor, materials
in 1999. The sump was also another $400. The exhaust manifold crossover
goes under the carberator or flow meter. I chose fuel injection. You will
need to fit in an alternate air box if front of that mechanism which will
turn under the carb or flow meter for alternate air and the direct ram air
will go forward. The system is very neat, compact and a simple working
concept. This will be a very high intake elevation compared to other
installations and will require a forward and upward extension of the intake
thus changing the look of the lower cowel of the lancair but it is not
detractive from the looks. In my case the intake is about 1 inch below the
prop spinner. I pick up two inches of manifold pressure by direct ram air
to the flow meter.
