ANYONE THINKING ABOUT TRIDAIRS READ THIS!!!
As I mentioned before, the -1 studs are not a good choice. The -1s may not work in all locations and the CRES ones have a problem when you bottom the stud. The stud has a plug in the bottom of the hex that gets pushed out by the threaded part of the receiver. I contacted the manufacturer when I first noticed this and there response was "Don't do that". If you survey your installation I believe you will find that you need a -2 grip in some places and you DO NOT want to mix grip lengths so you will likely need to shim the receivers in a few places with bid strips and flox. You would likely need to do this anyway at the firewall to get a mounting surface parallel to the clamping surface.
You do NOT need the retainers nor are they recommended by yours truly.
You do NOT need any kind of back up washer under the stud (tinnerman or otherwise). It is essential that you are meticulous about the through hole and chamfer. Ream the through hole and use a good sharp countersink tool (preferably carbide) to form the countersink.
I have had the cowling on and off dozens if not hundreds of times over the last seven years and over 700 flight hours and I am on the original set of studs. There is no appreciable wear or play.
I would attach a photo to prove it but my server is decoding pictures to asci characters. WTF Marv???
I would suggest that everyone that is interested in using the Livelocks email Vern and tell him how many you would buy IF available from Lancair. If he gets enough interest he may be able to pass a discount to us hapless builders, or not. Even if they are the same price as others, at least Lancair is getting the profit, helping to ensure continued support.
