You mean the big nut that sets the bearing clearance?  If so, if I am
correct it should be set to give 0 to .005 end play (clearance) in the
bearing.  No pre-load at all.  To do so overloads the bearings.  I usually
tighten them jut enough to not be able to feel any play and then loosen to
the nearest hole.  You should always be able to feel slight clearance in the
bearing and no drag.  If I'm wrong someone please correct me.
