      This information enables the 530 to display a wind vector arrow and speed on the map screens.  Additionally, wind direction (in degrees), speed, and headwind or tailwind component are displayed on an auxiliary page.  So far, I have found the wind vector extremely useful in finding optimal cruise altitudes for cross country flights and setting up the  initial wind correction angle for approaches and holding patterns.  My
installation uses the Garmin 530 and the Rocky Mountain Micro Encoder  with the optional compass module.  The interface is a single wire to one of the RS232 inputs on the 530.
