I saw the Monroy ATD-200 in the AOPA magazine today and the device intrigues
me.
It is a passive receiver capable of detecting transponder replies from narby
aircraft and displaying their proximity in a segmented graphic LED display.
There is also a distinctive voice alert in relation to traffic proximity.
The range is 5NM for light aircraft and 7 NM for air transport aircraft
flying within 1500 feet of vertical separation. The cost is $695 for AOPA
members.
This is not a TCAS but it appears that there might be some value added to
our aircraft and some additional safety alert capability.
Question, has anyone seen one of these puppies operate and/or what is your
opinion of such a device for us Lancair flyers. I am considering such a
device for my airplane. Any comments?
