I agree.  I like to think in terms of miles
of glide per 1000 feet of altitude loss.  
If my engine ever quits, I am going
to find a place to land within 2 miles
for every 1000' AGL assuming no wind
and the gear and flaps up.
  
That is only a 10.5:1 glide ratio which I
think is more realistic in an engine out
emergency for a 360.

With gear and flaps down and the prop
in fine pitch, figure about half the above.
