I used to have a shop at a flight school with twenty aircraft flying up to 1200hrs/mo. We had lots of regulator problems on the Cessna trainers and a good deal of it could be traced directly to that switch. The start side can't be any better than the alt side. It probably carries more current also. I kept one on hand after learning that trick. Toss it and see what happens when you install a new one.
