I did it and now my start's are like I always wanted. Before it seemed I had to use the primer excessively, before and after starting back here in the midwest when it is cold (anything below 40 degrees F) but all starts were otherwise not a problem. And that is despite my use of a Tannis heater I employ. It just seemed to me that much primer use shouldn't be necessary. To repeat Jim's procedure as I understood and works marvelously for me : 1. Full throttle and full rich. 2. High boost ON until FF reads 21 (18-22 for me, the read-out lags just slighty behind switching it off). 3. Throttle back to 1/3 or slighty less. 4. A token moment's depression of the primer button (1-2 seconds, which I am not even sure is necessary now but retain it here as a vestigial thing). 5. Turn the ignition to start and it seems I barely get it turned and the engine leaps to life and runs so smooth as I throttle back a little more to idle. Just wanted to contribute my feedback on this issue to the group and say Thank you Jim! As an aside, I am planning on a flight to Talkeetna, Alaska from Bend, OR around June 18-20 for 2-3 days. A compadre of mine will be finishing his climb of Mount McKinnley about then and I am planning on helping him celebrate his anticipated personal accomplishment. We will be staying at Denali Overlook Inn. Anyone interested in making this a Lancair Fleet outing? Anyone experienced on this route with recommendations to me?
