Dave,
Thank you for your thoughtful response to my query regarding rude bird strikes.
However, the limitation of only 20 shots per flight concerns me somewhat as does
the shot size. I am in agreement about the magnum ammo. What happens if we
encounter a flock of birds? And what if there are various kinds of birds
requiring different shot sizes. The more that I think about this problem, the
more I am leaning towards four barrels on each wing. This is not as silly as it
seems when you consider multiple targets, the closing speed of those birds, the
frontal area that needs defending, and the most important of all redundancy of
capability that is so important to flight safety to counter the jamming concern.
What I think I need for the perfect system is an algorithm that sets up a belt
fed ammunition supply to each of the eight barrels in an order that allows for a
99.99% correct shot size for any given bird encounter. Are there any random
theorists out there that understand the dilemma and how to work through the
problem?
