And what if there are various kinds of birds requiring different shot sizes. The more that I think about this problem, the more I am leaning towards four barrels on each wing. This is not as silly as it seems when you consider multiple targets, the closing speed of those birds, the frontal area that needs defending, and the most important of all redundancy of capability that is so important to flight safety to counter the jamming concern. What I think I need for the perfect system is an algorithm that sets up a belt fed ammunition supply to each of the eight barrels in an order that allows for a 99.99% correct shot size for any given bird encounter. Are there any random theorists out there that understand the dilemma and how to work through the problem?
