Well Gents,
After 6 weeks of tinkering and puttering I've finished my LNC2 annual.
I'd like to thank the crowd for the Prop advice along the way. Some of
the annual highlights follow.
Under the "let's be conservative" mindset I took my Prop to Byam
Propeller service in Ft Worth. Very reputable guys. They chuckled a
little at what I thought was damage and good heartedly told me to get
out the file and sand paper and go to work. Subsequently, I relearned
all the standard painting lessons. Specifically, the ACS Prop Epoxy of
course eats the Hartzell under lying alkid (sp?) primer. Nice and
crinkly. After removing all paint from the back I've primed and
repainted with the epoxy and it appears to be a perfect combination.
The dynamic balance appears to be unaffected following a few file
strokes and the repaint of the back side.
Other interesting imporvements include an iPAQ with the Anywhere Map
software. Quite remarkable how boring flight can be without having to
read maps and dewobble the wet compass all day long. Great product! It
must obviously lie to me about airspeed. It seems to indicate that I'm
several knots faster than the rest of you. I'm sure it's nothing.
Additionally, I added a pair of landing lights (20 Watt Halogens). The
HID's were beyond the social status of this plane (but I'll keep'm in
mind for the next one). I also wanted that Southwest blink affect on
the landing lights. I bought a Wig Wag circuit from Galls and a 3
position switch and am delighted with the function while still
agonizing over the added weight.
My left main gear leg had about .035" for / aft play. Zero movement
being the tolerance I managed to shim the forward trunion aft without
removing the wings. This jewel came to me as a vision in the night. I
cut my 7/16 end wrench in half and was able to squeeze it in behind the
mounting blocks of the forward trunion to loosen the bolts. This
permitted enough space to insert the requisite shim stock. That was a
one day project compressed into about 1 hour.
Finally, with a coat of wax I should be able to get her to FL for the
Sun 100. I hope others will attend if for the heckling if nothing else.
Looking forward to watching Grayhawk entertain us with his spritely
takeoff.
