A Lancair IV pilot at Camarillo airport had a bird strike on short final a
couple of years ago. The bird, a seagull, went through the windscreen,
cutting the pilot's forehead. In spite of the blood everywhere, a
successful landing was accomplished. The worst part was afterward -
the entire leather interior was covered with puree of seagull. The
insurance company would not allow cleanup until they had assessed the
damage, so of course the entire interior was ruined and had to be
replaced. The company paid, but the task of removing the old interior
was NOT one I would wish to have assigned to me.
