It deals with aviation gasoline fuel and octane ratings adequate for Lycoming engines. It is not a pretty sight when one reads between the lines. What I see is the demise of aviation gasoline as we know it. That's not a pretty picture, is it? When a major engine manufacture must publish a service instruction on the grades of aviation gasoline acceptable for use in their engines there is a problem. As always, they state one must use a higher grade of aviation gasoline when the rated fuel is not available. Automotive fuels are unacceptable but this is not news. In North America we are probably safe for some years to come but the thrust of this instruction is we must be very careful when buying fuel overseas. 100/130 is becoming hard to find outside of the western hemisphere, I fear. The grades B91/115 and B95/130 in particular are of interest as they may be suitable for use in our Continental TSIO 550 series engines. I do not subscribe to the TCM letters and I wonder if they have a similar service instruction/letter? George, what can you add to this?
