The Air Force did a study some time ago to see what could be done to reduce
the incidence of bird strikes in the airport environment (far and away the
most likely place for bird/plane intercepts). They found that the use of
the landing light cut the incidence of the bird strikes by about 50%. That
is one of the reasons the use of the landing light is SOP for both military
and heavy civil iron in the takeoff and landing phases of flight, regardless
of time of day or weather. Perhaps its use would be a good idea for us as
well, in light of our speeds and small frontal cross-sections--we need to
help our avian friends "see and avoid".
