In short, two pieces of the test material are bonded, using the technique you plan to use. The bond overlap should be typical of those used in construction of your aircraft - perhaps a one square inch bond area with each piece long enough to grab with very strong clamps -- maybe one or two inches long each. The tag ends are then pulled (my ex-partner devised a rig to do this with a hydraulic press) apart until either the bond or the parent material fails. I did this because, having no prior experience with bonding fiberglass, I had no feel for the strength of the bond techniques I was going to bet my butt on. One must take precautions to contain any parts that may fly off the test rig when the coupon fails. Our first one wasn't and part of the test rig was launched across the shop to imbed itself in the dry-wall! We subsequently enclosed the thing in a small wooden box --- of course, after that, nothing ever flew off! Hope this helps.
