Ron and others,
I guess I should have been more detailed.
I now push the Mix and Throttle all the way in. Watch the Fuel Flow and turn
on the High Boost till you see 19/21 GPH for One-second, then turn pump off.
Pull back the Throttle to normal slow idle, for me that is about one turn on
the vanier. Then push the primer for about 2 or 3 seconds and start. Mine
will start and idle smoothly at about 800 or 900 rpm at that setting. Somehow
I think the E model is harder starting then the B, however, the factory 109L
started very easy and didn't require this procedure.
There is a distinct sound difference between low and high boost. Mine idles
with the low pump on smoothly for about 2 minutes, and then will gain about
50 rpm when I turn it off. The book says to leave the pump off when starting,
just Prime for 5/6 seconds. I'm tired of cleaning off the bottom cowl where
the overflow goes from over priming. I'm convinced that when you stop the
engine by pulling the Mix you just turn off the fuel at the back of the
engine and the remaining fuel is burned up on stopping. Then the heat of the
engine pushes what fuel is left in the injection system into the cylinders
and evaporates. The fuel can easily boil after shut down because the boiling
point is about 185* when not under pressure. Therefore, the injection system
needs to be refilled before starting for a smooth start, and the primer used
mainly for getting added fuel in the intake air stream.
I think the E model has a much worse starting problem then the B model.
