Our trip at 10k altitude due to heavy headwinds and lack of pressurization took less than 7 hrs with one stop in Deming, NM. It was a magnificent flight despite the icing we encountered at 4k during the descent to Watsonville that marred the night. Temps were less than 400 CHT all the time despite the maximum leaning I had to go to make it in the last 2 hrs of the fligth when 50 degrees lean of peak gave me 13.5 gallons/hr. We worked there for 5 days until my wife's passport ran out. The flight back via National from SFO to Las Vegas and back to Dallas commercially took from 9.00 am to 2.00 am next day. so much for the commercial side. We got singled out (do not buy airline tickets within 24 hrs via the internet or you will be singled out at every stop). We got searched 5 times. The heat valve was sticking during trials to secure inflow as per Charlie Kohler and we found the sticky substance to come from the Sceet tube. We ordered a new set of Sceet double ply tube but we noticed again the same gooey substance in the inside. With the heath in the system it gets transferred to the heat valve. Anybody else noticed this problem? It makes actuation of the cold/hot valve difficult and produces binding. Anyway all those years of work (Gary Hanlon bless his heart) were worth it.
