There is probably a correct nomenclature for the chicken plates. They are about 1x3" and 1/8" thick. The plates are installed around the windshield, at the mating line of the top and bottom and around the rear pressure bulkhead apparently to prevent the IVP from being topless after pressurization. It also keeps it from growing too fat from pressurization. A flat head machine screw (#10 or 12?) is placed through each one from the outside. A locknut and washer is installed on the inside. I can't imagine the need for any on an ES. Every square foot at 5 psi is holding about 700# outward force. Wow! Think how much pressure is on that windshield. IF it is 10 sq ft of area it is 7000 pounds. Man I hope I did not embarrass myself with my physics. Carl Cadwell, a non-engineer N25CL IVP [I think they're actually called reinforcement plates, and don't forget the eight that are mounted in the floor just outboard of the hydraulic/fuel line tunnel, 4 in front and 4 behind the spar. ] >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LML website: http://members.olsusa.com/mkaye/maillist.html LML Builders' Bookstore: http://www.buildersbooks.com/lancair Please remember that purchases from the Builders' Bookstore assist with the management of the LML.
