I used the AKC ELT that uses Duracell batteries. Very convienient. How many
components of your Lancair can you replace at the Mini-Mart?
Anyway I mounted it behind the baggage bulkhead aft of the pump. I glued an
appropriately shaped (roughly triangular cross section) foam block to the
lower fuselage side as a mold. Then I layed up a 4 bid over the foam with 2
inch overlap onto the fuselage top and bottom. Finally I dug out the foam.
That left a very sturdy shelf on which to mount the ELT that, I believe,
would withstand suffecient G's to survive a crash. I used the whip antenna
mounted on a similar shelf behind the ELT. Finally I microed a small piece
of 3/4 inch pvc tubing to the fuselage to contain the top of the antenna and
keep it from slapping around. Works good and I've had no interferrence with
the com's.
