Walter,
If you are putting the panel in and then putting the top on, beware as we almost blew it. The trouble was that we did not figure out that we could not reach in to place the nuts and washers on the bolts through the chicken plates with the panel in. These were the ones all across the windshield and down the sides to the panel. So the hysol is on and no one can reach the bolts and get a washer and nut on. Now what? Take out anything panel mounted to reach in there. Weld a 1" x 18" piece of sheet metal to a 7/16" box end wrench to extend the handle and allow it to bend in funny shapes..Superglue a washer to the nut. Put a strip of duct tape in the 7/16" box wrench end to hold the nut/washer. And you can get most of them in. (all but 2 in our case) Fortunately hysol is not rapid setting.
What is the solution?
1. don't put the panel in until the top is on.
2. put nut plates on the chicken plates
#2 would be my first choice.
If the chicken plates are already in place, then attach nut plates to 1"
x 2" fiberglass sheets and epoxy them into place with the bolt holding
them from the top.
If the chicken plates are not in yet, you can rivet the nut plates
directly to the chicken plates.
Then again, maybe my panel is too far forward.
