Tying two threads together, Bob Nuckolls has stated numerous times
that getting the panel and interior lighting correct is the hardest
part of designing an aircraft electrical system. The big boys spend
much time trying to get it right. The user wants even illumination,
with every instrument dimming and brightening at the same rate, and
Bob says that is almost impossible to accomplsh. His advice is to make
room for four dimming circuits, even if only one is installed, as over
time you may need separate dimmers to get appropriate lighting. His
advice include mentioning that a panel as constructed will almost
certainly need lighting adjustment later, but unless you want to delay
the first flight for an inordinate period of time while you spend your
days under a blanket with your panel, tweaking the lighting, you
should make a first stab at it and go fly the plane.
